Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2: Everything you need to know (2024)

Extraordinary Attorney Woo spoilers follow.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo has proven itself to be one of the most aptly-named shows to ever stream on Netflix – so much so in fact, it even beat The Sandman as more people tuned into the Korean series.

This story of a talented lawyer named Woo Young-woo who navigates life on the autism spectrum has quickly become one of the most successful Korean TV exports of all time.

While it's not reached the heights of Squid Game (at least not yet), this adorable legal drama has still managed to rack up an extraordinary 67 million viewing hours in its sixth week on Netflix, after hitting 24 million in its first week.

On top of that, Extraordinary Attorney Woo is now the eighth most-watched non-English series of all time on Netflix.

But you already know it's amazing, because you've definitely binged all 16 episodes more than once. It's just that kind of show. So what you want to know is when new episodes will arrive to continue the story of this extraordinary young attorney.

That's where we come in. Join us here at Digital Spy as we reveal everything you need to know about Extraordinary Attorney Woo season two on Netflix.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 potential release date: Will there be one?

Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2: Everything you need to know (1)

We have some kind of good news for this one! It appears there are already plans in place for season two to come our way... it's just going to be a bit of a wait.

Speaking to South Korean media outlets (via NME's reporting and Soompi's translation), the CEO of network ASTORY Lee Sang-baek revealed there are things in store for Woo and her adorably addictive world.

"Thanks to the support of many people, we will produce season two of Extraordinary Attorney Woo," Lee said. "The goal is to air season two in 2024."

However, it's not officially officially happening just yet, despite the obviously positive ground it is currently on.

ENA, the channel that broadcasts Extraordinary Attorney Woo in South Korea, has confirmed discussions on a potential second season are ongoing – but again, that's not cemented. If it does happen, then a 2024 release date looks very feasible.

We'll be keeping you updated every step of the way.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 cast: Who will be coming back?

Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2: Everything you need to know (2)

As long as none of the cast objects, expect to see the following cast members return in Extraordinary Attorney Woo season two:

• Park Eun-bin as Woo Young-woo
• Oh Ji-yul as young Woo Young-woo
• Kang Tae-oh as Lee Jun-ho
• Kang Ki-young as Jung Myung-seok
• Jeon Bae-soo as Woo Gwang-ho
• Jang Seong-beom as young Woo Gwang-ho
• Baek Ji-won as Han Seon-young
• Ha Yoon-kyung as Choi Soo-yeon
• Joo Jong-hyuk as Kwon Min-woo
• Jin Kyung as Tae Soo-mi
• Jung Han-bit as young Tae Soo-mi
• Joo Hyun-young as Dong Geu-ra-mi

This is great news for lead star Park Eun-bin in particular, who explained that she wasn't expecting such a positive response... in fact, the overwhelming positivity was more of a shock.

"While it's true that I put a lot of effort into the drama, I left the popularity up to the viewers after the broadcasts and didn’t have expectations." she told ET News (via Soompi).

"I was a bit scared at the unexpected, explosive response right after the broadcasts. Personally, I think I am living the same but I get asked for my autograph more often."

As part of Lee Sang-baek's earlier statement (via NME's reporting and Soompi's translation), it's suggested that no-one in the cast or production team will be replaced if possible. Plans are in place to retain "more than 90 percent of the same members" of the team behind Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

Their biggest obstacle here will likely be factors outside of the company's control. Per this interview, Lee is quoted as saying: "It is not easy to coordinate the schedules of the cast and production team, so we will have to go through a lot of discussion[s]."

Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 plot: What will happen?

Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2: Everything you need to know (3)

According to The Korea Herald, CEO Lee Sang-baek revealed screenwriter Moon Ji-won is on board to write a possible second season, assuming it does indeed go into production. If that's true, then Ji-won will likely have a lot to contend with moving forward.

Kang Tae-oh, the star who plays Young-woo's love interest Lee Jun-ho, will soon enlist for mandatory military service. It's a requirement for all Korean men by the age of 28 who are physically able to serve, so future episodes might need to work around an extended absence for this pivotal character.

Then there's also the controversy surrounding the show's portrayal of autism to consider as well. Overall, responses from the autistic community have been mixed – with some commending the show for its depiction, while others think it's not an accurate and fair portrayal of someone living on the autism spectrum.

Moving forward, it's likely these responses will need to be factored in to ensure season two is as authentic and respectful as it can be.

This was something lead actress Park Eun-bin took into great consideration when first going for the role. In fact, Park turned the role down quite a few times before saying yes.

She revealed during a recent chat with TV Guide: "I had to think about this being a drama, so there would be some media influence. I did not want to make a bad impact on the ASD (autism spectrum disorder) community.

"I thought that I could not have any stereotypes or prejudices going into this project. That was one of my main concerns," she continued. "Because this drama and its themes involve and concern a lot of people, I felt a sense of responsibility very heavily. I did not want to offend or hurt anyone."

She later added in an interview with ET News (via Soompi): "I decided that it was my moral responsibility to exclude references as much as possible and not use real autistic people as a means, in order to emphasise Woo Young-woo's uniqueness.

"Woo Young Woo is not a representative or spokesperson for autistic people so I wanted to show her individual traits."

In the meantime, three episodes from Extraordinary Attorney Woo are going to be selected for a new, musical version of Woo's story inspired by the series (according to a press release from EMK Musical Company). So there's even more fun for this work to expand.

There's also been discussions for the show to be given an English-language adaptation.

Unfortunately, without Extraordinary Attorney Woo season two officially being given the go-ahead, we've not got any new footage available.

While we wouldn't object to seeing new episodes as soon as possible, we appreciate that any leaks would be under close scrutiny from everyone at the Hanbada Law Firm.

Keep an eye out then for official footage when Extraordinary Attorney Woo starts production, most likely in 2023. We'll be here to update you every step of the way.
